The basic message (I think) is that the ego misdirects you and causes you to make wild rationalizations. The ego demands possessions and you have my this, my that. Got to get ahead of the Jones! The book is also somewhat philosophical and can get into philosophical tangles. You may think you think, but you cannot think without first having a thought so it is the thought that thinks. If you think that is tangled, the discussion on what is "the observer" makes the corresponding discussion in quantum mechanics a great simplification. Then, a quote: "Books like this intend to simply share a view in which the author knows that is ultimately untrue".The book has a lot of anecdotes, it probably expresses a philosophy that will help some. However, most of the statements are assertions and many of them approach being paradoxical. Many may be valid, but they are not all justified, and the discussion on God is amusing. If you reach enlightenment, according to the author, you may find yourself unhappy, isolated from your partner and everyone else.
